Protest in Milan over bear kills Italian runner


Dozens of protesters carrying teddy bears gathered in Milan on Saturday (April 22) to demand an "amnesty" for the animals, local media reported. A female bear kills a 26-year-old runner in the Alps, Italy.

Animal rights groups have rallied in Piazza Cordusio to support the bear, which Trento province says it captured on Tuesday night (April 18).

The search for the bear began after Andrea Papi's body was found on April 6 in the woods of the Peller Mountains, where the victims went for a run. .

Papi's death has sparked renewed debate over human and wildlife conflicts in the region, where bear numbers have been on the rise since 1999 under EU funding.
